Cirque du Soleil’s most enchanting arena production has made its way to Victoria.
Corteo is back in B.C.’s capital city for seven performances from Thursday (Jan. 11) to Sunday at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
“You’re transported to this magical place for two hours,” Alison Crawford, artistic director of Corteo said. “I love every moment of it. I never get tired of it.”
This production, written and directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, was performed for the first time in Montreal in 2005, and since then, it has dazzled more than 10 million people in 20 countries. It was last in Victoria in 2018.
“Audiences have responded really well,” Crawford said. “They really love it. We get standing ovations.”
Corteo is a story of a clown picturing his own funeral while being watched over by angels.
“It touches the audience very much as we also follow him through his life,” Crawford added. “We get to meet all the people that influenced him during his life. It’s very human.”
It combines acrobatic feats and comedy set in a carnival atmosphere.
“There’s a lot of aerial acts, a lot of poetry, a lot of high-risk acts and a lot of funny moments in the show,” Crawford said.
