Theatres host joint auditions

Companies searching for actors, singers for spring and fall musical productions

Three Nanaimo theatre companies are holding joint auditions for upcoming productions.

Schmooze Productions, Western Edge Theatre and Pacific Coast Stage Company – producers of Fringetastic theatre festival – hold general-call auditions at Nanaimo Centre Stage Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 7-8), 1-4 p.m.

The three companies are auditioning for separate musical projects in the upcoming year.

Pacific Coast Stage is developing an adapted version of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog, set for Jan. 25-27 at Vancouver Island University; Schmooze Productions is mounting the full-scale musical The Full Monty April 19-May 12 at Nanaimo Centre Stage; and Western Edge is prepping for its original new musical, Moonbound, set for fall 2012, also at Nanaimo Centre Stage.

“It’s exciting to have so many great companies working together to offer a wealth of theatre opportunities,” said Dean Chadwick, of Schmooze Productions.

Auditioners must prepare a short monologue, reading or tell a good story.

Musical auditions include 16 bars of the performer’s best song, and must be prepared to test vocal range with an accompanist and perform a short choreographed sequence.

All auditions will be kept on file for additional upcoming non-musical projects.
