Theatre company seeks new scripts

NANAIMO - TheatreOne seeks original plays for its spring Emerging Voices series.

TheatreOne is currently planning the 2013-14 Emerging Voices series and seeks scripts to use in the upcoming season.

Emerging Voices is a series of staged readings that highlight Canadian plays by local playwrights. The aim of the series is to allow emerging writers to have an avenue to have their plays workshopped and performed.

This year TheatreOne is working with Nicolle Nattrass as the associate artist/dramaturge.

Nattrass said she in a press release she was honoured to be asked to work on the project. She was involved in the Emerging Voices series in the past as an actor and a playwright. Her play Good House-keeping was featured in the series in 2009 and 2010.

Nattrass said she knows firsthand the need and importance of opportunities for writers to hear their work read aloud in front of an audience. Emerging Voices offers the playwright that chance and helps develop new Canadian plays.

“It is my hope that the Emerging Voices program serves the playwright to develop further and closer to a production ready play,”  said Nattrass.

Submitted plays must not have received a professional production. Anyone interested in the opportunity to be involved in Emerging voices can e-mail ev@theatreone.org.

Events are scheduled for next spring.
