The Banff Centre seeks applicants for Indigenous arts programs

NANAIMO - Dancers, writers and singers interested in gaining more knowledge about can apply for the Banff Centre's upcoming programs.

The Banff Centre’s Indigenous Arts is seeking applications for three upcoming programs.

People are invited to apply to participate in the Indigenous Dance Residency, the Indigenous Writing Program and the Diverse As This Land — Voice Intensive Workshop.

The dance residency’s application deadline in Wednesday (May 1). Individuals interested must complete and application form, which includes a processing fee; and create a statement that is a maximum of 250 words about why they want to be part of the program; send a resume and references and a video that demonstrates  their most recent dance experience and their own choreographed work. Enrollment in the program is limited to 13 dancers. Applicants who are accepted into the program will receive a full scholarship for tuition, room and meals, but travel to the Banff Centre isn’t covered. Individuals must be a professional or emerging dance of Indigenous descent.

The writing program application deadline is also May 1. People must submit and application and portfolio and complete a questionnaire.

The voice intensive workshop deadline is Tuesday (April 30). Individuals must complete an application form; submit a statement about why they want to be in the program, maximum 250 words; submit a resume and a sample of their work in on CD or provide a web link, digital files aren’t accepted at this time.

The Banff Centre Indigenous Arts programs are meant to enhance opportunities for Indigenous artists, writers, musicians, dancers, choreographers, visual and new media artists with the goal of contributing to the development of vibrant indigenous arts communities in Canada and around the globe.
