B.C. Country Music Hall of Fame member Alan Moberg is part of a concert series to raise money for repairs to St. Andrew’s United Church.

A member of the B.C. Country Music Hall of Fame performs as part of St. Andrew’s United Church concert series.

Alan Moberg’s 40-year career includes 16 albums and an induction into the hall of fame for his western roots and country gospel music.

All he heard on the radio were songs about the U.S. or eastern Canada, but very little about British Columbia.

He aimed to change that by writing about the province and the people.

“Western Roots is music that draws on all the aspects of life in the west – the coast and the fisherman, the country and the cowboys, the beauty of the land and the power of the sea, the dignity and warmth of the people,” Moberg said.

He also hosts the radio program The Alan Moberg Show Wednesdays at www.cfsi-fm.com from Salt Spring Island.

The church in the Old City Quarter aims to raise $750,000 over the next three years to repair the roof of the 151-year-old structure as well as other upgrades. Listed in the Historic Places of Canada registry, the church is host to not just the congregation but also the community, with weddings, funerals, music festivals and meetings held in the church.

Moberg performs March 26, 7:30 p.m., at St. Andrew’s. Tickets $20 from West Coast Classic Floral, Lobelia’s Lair, Fascinating Rhythm, Tom Lee Music or the church.
