A roll of film shot with a disposable camera uncovered Lisa Graham’s passion for photography. Her photos are on display at the downtown Nanaimo Art Gallery until Oct. 29.

Lisa Graham’s love for photography sparked while scuba diving in 18 metres of water off the coast of Cozumel, Mexico.

She took a disposable film camera in the hopes of capturing an image to show her friends and family the amazing new world she was seeing.

Inspired by the beauty of the sea and the creativity that photography had to offer, she decided to learn more and in the decade since, her passion has only deepened.

Much of her body of work involves water in some manner.

Above or below, she is known for her innovative style. She explores the artistic possibilities photography has to offer and especially loves how water lends a new element to her subjects, be it in the reflection of a bride and groom in a pond, the blurred waves on a beach, fish in the sea or people in a pool.

Graham’s photographs will be on display at the downtown Nanaimo Art Gallery from Oct. 11-29.
