The spotlights at the Port Theatre will be put to good use over the coming months.

Nanaimo’s premier downtown theatre recently announced its lineup for its 2017-18 Spotlight Season.

“I’m very excited about the diverse and innovative range of excellent work coming your way…” said Lindy Sisson, the theatre’s interim general manager, in a press release. “I invite you to join the Port Theatre Society and experience the captivating power of live music, dance, theatre and circus works this season.”

Tanya Tagaq, a Nunavut-born musician, is one of the headline acts this fall; she performs Oct. 18 with opening act William Prince.

Another highlight is Circus Squared, featuring a double bill of contemporary circus acts on Oct. 15.

Ballet B.C. will open the season Sept. 23 with three works from internationally acclaimed choreographers.

Collectif9, a nine-piece classical string band from Montreal will bring a “genre-bending, fearless performance,” on Nov. 10, according to the release.

Winter Harp is back for a Dec. 9 show.

The new year will feature International Guitar Night on Jan. 26.

The Spotlight Season also includes the Offstage Lobby Theatre Series featuring emerging artists and the Classical Coffee Concert Series. Other shows at the Port this season will be the Arts Club Theatre Company; Alex Cuba and Alejandra Ribera; Company Wayne McGregor’s Atomos; and Betty Bonifassi.
