New movement-themed painting and sculpture exhibit opens at VIU’s View Gallery

‘Figuratively Speaking: A Journey Through Movement’ features work by four regional artists

The View Gallery’s first exhibition of 2022 is a moving one.

From Jan. 18 until Feb. 12 Vancouver Island University’s View Gallery presents Figuratively Speaking: A Journey Through Movement, an exhibition reflecting themes of figural work and movement curated by art student Pam Vickars. An opening reception will be held on Jan. 29.

The exhibition features work by Nanaimo sculptor Joel Prevost, Denman Island painter Katarina Meglic and from Salt Spring Island sculptor Kathy Venter and painter Chintan Bolliger.

“Through the intriguing work of four accomplished and varied artists, human movement is portrayed on a number of levels, from both internal and external perspectives,” said a press release.

The View Gallery has also released its 2022 winter/spring schedule. Nelson-based multimedia artist Jim Holyoak presents Aroboressence from Feb. 17 to April 9, the VIU visual art grads are holding their end-of-year show from April 28 to May 28 and the Harbour City Photography Club is back with its annual Photo Salon from June 17 to 24.

WHAT’S ON … Figuratively Speaking: A Journey Through Movement opening reception at the View Gallery, VIU Bldg. 330, on Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. Exhibition runs from Jan. 18 until Feb. 12.
