New mandate for arts group

An arts advocacy group in B.C. expanded its mandate and changed its name to better serve the groups it represents.

The Assembly of B.C. Arts Councils, based in Nanaimo, changed its name to ArtsBC. It aims to include more cultural groups in its umbrella, as well as individual artists, business associations and stakeholders with an interest in the health and economic impact of the arts sector in the province.

A key focus of the new mandate is to provide resources to members, such as education and training components, and collecting research publications.

The organization is hosting its annual conference April 29-May 1 in Richmond, B.C., for members to network.
