Shifting shadows and sunlight rays touching leaves and flowers in Nanoose forests form a mystical and ephemeral world that speaks to Helen Kilsby’s inner creativity.
The mixed-media artist, originally from England, said her natural surroundings are inspiring. Her layered works, mostly painted with acrylic, is multi-layered, textured and abstract. “My work isn’t exact. It’s more of a feeling of the plants evolving and lighting and colour,” said Kilsby.
She loves to create tactile pieces and encourages visitors to her studio to run their hands along the canvas to fully experience her work.
Kilsby is one of the artists opening her studio, Helen Kilsby Art Studio located at 2571 La Selva Place, during the Nanoose Bay Thanksgiving Studio Tour Saturday to Monday (Oct. 10-12) 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The tour features 17 artists’ studios with artistic mediums ranging from pottery and jewelry to paintings and photographs.
