An emerging Nanaimo-based artist will exhibit her abstract and minimalist style on Gabriola Island.
Meghan Bellamy’s ‘Revival’ shows at the Free Spirit Gallery, 590 North Rd., until Sept. 25 in a not-to-be-missed display of assemblage wood and watercolour landscape pieces, according to a release by the gallery.
The release also noted how, in her exhibit, Bellamy manages her lines, colours and forms to release the tension absorbed by an overstimulating environment.
“A sense of calmness permeates the collective narrative of her artwork, and one realizes the power art has in easing anxiety, for both the creator and the viewer,” noted the release. “Calm is essential in the overriding feelings of chaos and limbo in these times of a global pandemic, racial inequities, economic uncertainty and political upheaval.”
In the ‘Revival’ collection, Bellamy works with large statement pieces in juxtaposition to a series of 12 mini circular pieces mounted onto a large frame.
“I created the Revival collection because I feel that art has revived my entire life. I was feeling lost, so I went back to artwork which has given me comfort throughout my life,” said Bellamy in the release. “Creating artwork gives me space and time to reflect on my feelings.”
Free Spirit Gallery Studio’s hours are Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
