An alternative singer-songwriter from Nanaimo is set to release his first single and music video at the beginning of October.

According to a release, after an eight-year hiatus from music, Adam Ashten now aims to help people with their mental health through his music.

“Music is nothing new to Adam when it comes to writing songs and performing,” noted the release. “His interest in music started at a young age, influenced by bands such as Tom Petty, Silverchair, Oasis, Nirvana and Phil Collins.”

Ashten has been in the music game since he was 13 years old, and released his first EP with his then-bandmates at 15. Throughout his life, he’s continued to write and release content, most notably with his previous band Afterglow that separated in the early 2010s.

It wasn’t until 2020, when he had a three-month period off his day job due to the pandemic, when he started writing songs steadily again with the support of his family, noted the release.

In his new approach to music, Ashten intends to release a new single and music video every month online. The release for his first single ‘Upside Down’ is scheduled for Oct. 7 on all streaming platforms. The music video will premiere the same day at 9 a.m. on YouTube.
