A B.C.-born musician who has performed with some high-profile entertainers is set to hold a Christmas concert in Nanaimo.

Andrew Allen, who’s released two chart-topping Christmas songs, will be holding his All Hearts Come Home Christmas concert on Dec. 21 at the Port Theatre. The show will include new takes on holiday classics, original songs, and a “handful of heart warming stories,” he said.

“I’ve always loved Christmas, I think it’s the lights, it’s the family, the friends, it’s the time together,” said Allen. “I also have an eight-year-old, and so I feel like Christmas changes once you have kids and it just becomes all the more magical again. This annual Christmas show has been so much fun because we often incorporate a lot of kids with the production, and you just see how excited they are to get on stage and participate in it.”

The artist, whose music is influenced by John Mayer, Jason Mraz, and Virginia to Vegas, said he likes writing Christmas music because it a chance to forget about songwriting habits that artists normally have when writing about “current, modern ideas” and he gets a chance to feel nostalgic and “remind people of why Christmas is so great.”

His songs I Wanna Be Your Christmas and Favourite Christmas Song both reached top 10 in Canada and he has performed with internationally renowned artists the likes of Bruno Mars, the Barenaked Ladies, and Carly Rae Jepson.

Allen will be joined by the Port Theatre Youth Choir for the show Dec. 21 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 for adults and free for children and students. Tickets are available at http://tickets.porttheatre.com.
