Lunchtime music heats up downtown

NANAIMO - Summertime lunch concert series continues Thursday and Friday (Aug. 22-23) with The Big Mess, Butts Giraud and Andre Kauffman.

The lunchtime live music series continues this Thursday and Friday (Aug. 22-23) at Diana Krall Plaza and the China Steps.

This Thursday people can enjoy music from The Big Mess at the China Steps from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Big Mess consists of father and son duo Marty and Kyle Shepard. Marty was born in Chicago and was one of the original members of REO Speedwagon. Kyle graduated from the University of British Columbia’s film department, specializing in audio design.

On the Friday people can listen to the jazz stylings of Butts Giraud and Andre Kauffman. Butts is a Nanaimo musician and owner of the Dog’s Ear T-shirt and Embroidery Co. He is also a former CFL player for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Kaufmann plays a variety of genres including jazz, rock and country.

Each week downtown restaurants prepare a to-go menu so patrons can order specials and then go to the live events. This week’s participating restaurants include The Vault, Acme Food Co. and Pirate Chips.
