Jethro Tull guitarist coming to Nanaimo for ‘Aqualung’ 50th-anniversary tour

Martin Barre and touring band will play the Port Theatre on July 24

To celebrate the British rock band Jethro Tull’s 1971 album Aqualung, guitarist Martin Barre is holding a worldwide tour, and it arrives in Nanaimo this month.

Barre will play Nanaimo’s Port Theatre with his touring band – Dan Crisp on lead vocals, Alan Thomson on keyboard and Darby Todd on drums – on Sunday, July 24, at 7:30 p.m.

Aqualung was the album that defined [Jethro Tull]. Sumptuous melodies, big dynamics and power riffs galore. Acoustic met electric…and it all worked,” said Barre in the release.

Appearing as a special guest will be Jethro Tull’s former drummer Clive Bunker, who also played on the albums Stand Up and Benefit, as well as Aqualung.

The anniversary tour is noted as being a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” for fans to sit back and relive a legendary album, played in full and in sequence for the first time.

Barre and the Martin Barre Band will also play the Royal Theatre in Victoria on July 21 and the Tidemark Theatre in Campbell River on July 22.

Ticket information for the July 24 show can be found at www.porttheatre.com.
