A Hawaiian singer from the Comox Valley is bringing Christmas cheer to a Nanaimo church.

On Dec. 4, Anela Kahiamoe presents Christmas in Hawaii at St. Andrew’s United Church. The show is also a fundraiser, with $5 from each ticket supporting the Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank.

At the concert Kahiamoe will be performing a variety of music. Aside from Hawaiian he’ll be delving into gospel, because of the setting, and Christmas, because of the time of year. He said music is all he knows.

“I’ve been playing all my life. It’s the only thing I’ve done.” Kahiamoe said. “I’ve never worked a day in my life. Music has always been my living and I’ve always done pretty well that I didn’t have to work.”

Kahiamoe said it’s encouraging to be performing again and hopes to see the world continue to open back up.

“Being onstage is like my home,” he said. “I feel so comfortable onstage so it’s always nice to go back and play. It’s great. I just hope it opens up more this next coming year.”

WHAT’S ON … Anela Kahiamoe presents Christmas in Hawaii at St. Andrew’s United Church, 311 Fitzwilliam St., on Dec. 4 at 3 p.m. Tickets $25, available from the Port Theatre.
