A musical written and set locally is back for an encore.

Girls Night Out, which debuted last spring at Cedar Community Hall, is returning to the stage, this time in Ladysmith.

The production, written by Ann McInulty-Gogo and Brenda Clarke, is about three longtime best friends who grew up together in Ladysmith. Though their lives have taken them far away from each other, they’ve found time for a girls’ night in Ladysmith to catch up.

“And they do so with laughter, music and love,” noted a release for the show.

Audience participation is encouraged, with song lyrics projected onto a screen so people can sing along with their favourite tunes. Whenever a disco ball is flashing, audience members are invited to get up on their feet and dance.

“This show was a pure joy to produce and perform last year,” said Clarke, adding that she’s looking forward to staging it again with her friends McInulty-Gogo and Susan Warner. Seating at tables is first come, first served, so audience members are encouraged to arrive early for good seats. There will be a cash bar and desserts and snacks will be available for purchase.

“Filled to the brim with familiar tunes, and guaranteed to have everyone singing and dancing along, the Girls Night Out event will be a great night out for everyone to enjoy…” the release stated. “Get your tickets early and don’t miss out on the fun of singing familiar karaoke tunes along with friends and dancing like nobody’s watching.”

All proceeds from the show will be donated to the Arts Council of Ladysmith and District’s capital campaign and the Ladysmith Eagles who will direct the money to youth sports.

Girls Night Out will be performed at the Ladysmith Eagles Hall, 921 1st Ave., on June 14-15, with 7:30 p.m. show times both nights. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Eagles bar downtown or online at www.ladysmitharts. ca/event-details/ girls-night-out. Tickets may also be available at the door.
