Gallery adds new artwork

NANAIMO - Nanaimo Art Gallery acquires pieces by Ian Garrioch, Alistair Bell and Sonny Assu.

The Nanaimo Art Gallery has received several new additions for its permanent collection.

It received donations of work by B.C. artists Ian Garrioch and Alistair Bell and purchased two works by Canadian artists Sonny Assu.

The work by Nanoose’s Garrioch, called Reflections On The Cosmic Self, was donated by Jim Weeks in memory of his wife.

Alan Bell donated 27 art pieces created by his father Alistair Bell.

The gallery is planning an exhibit of his work this fall to coincide with what would have been Bell’s 100th birthday.

Assu’s work has been displayed in galleries throughout Canada. The pieces acquired include #occupyconsumption two acrylic hide drums created in 2011 and iDrum:Personal Totems.
