A Gabriola Island artist recently published a card pack featuring original works, and now she’s showing the paintings that were used to create those cards.

Deb Chaney presents ‘68 Reasons to Celebrate Creativity’ starting March 9 at the Gabriola Island Library. The exhibit will feature 20 framed mixed-media abstract paintings that were featured as background artwork for her inspirational card pack 68 Secrets of an Illuminated Artist: How to Stay in Your Flow Despite Any Obstacle.

The card pack was the product of artwork and journal entries from a 10-year period, during which the artist went through personal challenges, according to a press release.

“Curious about how and what had propelled her to continue her creativity, despite these challenges, Deb went back through 10 years of her journals and found notes, ideas and inspirations that had pulled her through her those tough times and supported her to persevere with her creative dream,” noted the release.

Chaney’s artwork includes pieces created using various mixed media techniques including transparent glazed laying, gold leaf applications, stencil work, sand texture, layering with polymer mediums, etching, and collage elements, added the release.

The library exhibit will be interactive as it includes a ‘treasure hunt’ suitable for all ages, connecting the artwork to the card pack, and is intended to “inspire and support participants’ creativity.”

The card pack can be purchased at Free Spirit Gallery and Page’s Resort and Marina, and online at http://www.thegamecrafter.com/games/the-68-secrets-of-an-illuminated-artist.

WHAT’S ON … Deb Chaney’s 68 Reasons to Celebrate Creativity will be at the Gabriola Island Library, 575 North Rd., from March 9-April 30.
