An award-winning singer-songwriter and choral composer will make Nanaimo a part of her interactive Be the Light tour this weekend.

According to a release, Lea Morris will perform at the Brechin United Church’s new auditorium on Estevan Road, Saturday, March 30.

With Baltimore gospel roots, Morris is on tour from Germany to share her “uplifting songs that are loved around the world.”

The concert will feature the performer’s powerful vocals and dynamic guitar work, as she seamlessly blends gospel, jazz, country, and rhythm and blues in her versions of original, contemporary and traditional songs.

The release compared Morris to Joni Mitchell and Ani Difranco, as she incorporates looped vocal percussion and harmonies in a soul-folk style all her own.

Sylvia Humble, founder of Nanaimo’s Sing Again Community Choir, will partner with Morris in four Vancouver Island events from Parksville to Victoria over Easter weekend.

“I am thrilled and honoured to collaborate with Lea. I admire her immensely as a songwriter and song leader,” Humble said in the release. “My choir has been practising some of Lea’s songs and we are so excited to sing with the composer herself.”

The Nanaimo visit will also include a vocal workshop at 10 a.m., followed by a concert at 2 p.m.

Concert information can be found at www.sylviahumble.ca and tickets for the Nanaimo’s show can be found at www.eventbrite.com.
