The Upper Island Musical Festival featured some of the area’s most talented youth.

Several were chosen to represent the central Island at the provincial performing arts festival in Kamloops in June including: Mathew Walker, left, musical theatre; Samantha Cashmore, musical theatre; Brittany Hannah, classical voice; Kiana Smith, musical theatre; Margot McLauchlan, ballet and piano; Abigail Gilchrist, modern dance; Alexandra Fontaine, stage dance; Sophie Carl, ballet; Martin Haaf, guitar; Esme Liddicoat, voice and speech arts; Kaitlyn Kershaw, piano; Kelly Mathews, ballet and stage dance; Liam Pistor, woodwind; and Andrew Martyn, piano.

Also participating in the festival are Devon joiner, national piano; Kendall Anderson, modern dance; and Emma Carr, stage dance.

Nanaimo will host the provincial festival in May 2012 for the first time in history.
