Saint John, N.B.-based artist Gary Davis is presenting his latest exhibition of mixed-media work, Near U.S. Series, at John Harris Gallery until June 29.

The show is a collection of U.S. road trip photographs that have been altered using ink, paint and found items, then photocopied and the process repeated to gradually obscure the original image.

“Some of these pieces, I’m going to work on in that way again and again and again to the point where the image will be completely gone,” he said.

“I find that it’s an exploration of my own subconscious mind. I find that I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m trying not to know what I’m doing.”

WHAT’S ON … Near U.S. Series by Gary Davis at John Harris Gallery (115 Haliburton St.) until June 29.
