Volunteers from Young Professionals of Nanaimo worked on the Habitat for Humanity Mid-Vancouver Island duplex on Prideaux Street in Nanaimo.
The group helped do a variety of much needed tasks around the home as it continues to get closer to completion. Volunteering building hours is a huge aspect of any Habitat for Humanity project and this is the fifth group that has contributed to the duplex this year.
“We were very excited to have the YPN come and work on our home,” said Teresa Pring, executive director of Habitat. “We are very thankful to their group for spending a day at the build site. It is really inspiring to see young people in our community get involved in a worthwhile project that makes a difference in families lives in our community.”
The volunteer hours with Habitat is part of the YPN’s new initiative – Volunteer 5,000 – where members of the YPN will donate 5,000 hours of volunteer time to projects across Nanaimo between Sept. 1 and April 30. Through their YPN All Sport Challenge they are looking to raise money to then reinvest in the community.
Habitat for Humanity is looking to the community for donations.
