Kiwanis Village – Walking companions are needed to help residents get out and enjoy the sunshine. Participants could accompany someone once or twice a week (or more depending on availability) around the neighbourhood. Nanaimo Senior Visiting Program –Telephone callers, in-home visitors for seniors and drivers for seniors program are needed. Resume and RCMP criminal record check are required from volunteer. Contact program coordinator Cathy Robson at  250-756-9455 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

 

Nanaimo Organization of the Vision Impaired – The B.C. Blind Sports Exercise Program needs volunteers to assist a certified instructor on Thursdays from 3-4 p.m. until June 2. Volunteers are also needed to be on call for future events. Please contact Carolyn at 250-716-9053.

 

Park Avenue Elementary School fun fair –  Volunteers needed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for June 8 event. Different shifts available.

 

Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. and  Yukon – Volunteers are needed for the Big Bike ride at Port Place shopping centre June 13, and June 14 at Woodgrove Centre.  Volunteers must read and write English legibly to assist with registration, hand out incentives, etc.  A commitment of four to six hours either or both days is preferred. Genome B.C. – Summer camp facilitator needed for Aug. 5-9. Volunteer with upper level undergraduate courses in science, education or criminology required full time for this summer camp week. Discussion and explanation of tasks by e-mail. Alzheimer Society of B.C. – A support group co-facilitator with excellent listening interpersonal skills, knowledge of dementia and willing to learn is needed. Applicant will be required to take two-day training seminar and attend dementia education and will receive on the job training/reading/online.
