VIEX needs volunteer coordinator

Vancouver Island Exhibition – A volunteer coordinator is needed to assign duties based on skills and interest. The coordinator will be responsible for orientation and training of approximately 150 volunteers per day over the three-day event in mid-August, and co-ordinate other events requiring volunteers throughout the year. Volunteer Nanaimo – An Appreciation Lunch decoration committee is needed ASAP. Volunteers with artistic skill and imagination are needed to help design and/or construct decorations for a large hall venue event in April. Please call 250-758-7121 to sign up.

Crimson Coast Dance Society – Volunteers enthusiastic about arts and dance, have good ideas they’d like to share, are interested in fundraising and attending dance events and can commit to approximately eight hours per month are needed for this organization. They will meet important figures in Canadian dance, music, theatre tech and design, support Nanaimo’s arts scene through world-class contemporary dance events and receive complimentary passes to all society events. Malaspina Gardens Seniors’ Facility – A library assistant volunteer is needed twice a month to look after library books, rotate stock and take around the library/magazine cart. The volunteer should be friendly, have an affinity with seniors and be comfortable dealing with chronic illness and dementia. Training will be provided and a criminal record check is required. Nanaimo Meals on Wheels – Three positions need to be filled including delivery drivers, 3-5:30 p.m. for a minimum of one day per week. Must have a Class 5 driver’s licence; a Friday day captain with personal computer and own vehicle to work four to five hours spread over two days a week to ensure routes are organized; and an accounts receivable clerk with bookkeeping experience who can work from home approximately four to five hours per week. Cedar Woods Farm – Volunteers are needed to answer phones, e-mails and perform general office duties from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday. Ability to work with people with barriers is an asset and a criminal record check is required. A commitment of a minimum of one day a week is preferred. Volunteer Nanaimo – Office-friendly volunteer required on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to answer phones and e-mails and greet the public. Knowledge of computers would be an asset, on-the-job training provided. Please telephone 250-758-7121 or e-mail vn.admin@shaw.ca.

Special Olympics Nanaimo – Volunteer swim coach is required for one day per week until April. Applicant must have knowledge of swimming skills and how to teach the progressions. Training available and a criminal record check is required. Volunteers are also required to coach from basic skills to competitive skating to athletes with intellectual disabilities. This is an ongoing position, one practice per week until March, and a criminal record check is required.
