Talk reveals church history

People will get a chance to learn the 115-year history of the United Church Mission Hospitals across Canada Sunday (April 10).

During the morning service at 10:20 a.m., and a luncheon at St. Andrew’s United Church, 311 Fitzwilliam St., Rev. Bob Burrows will present his books Healing in the Wilderness and Hope Lives Here.

His first book talks about the United Church hospital history and his second explores the roots of the church from its beginning in Granville at Burrard Inlet in 1885 to present day.

Burrows has had a long career with the church, joining in the early 60s, serving eight years in Vancouver’s first United Church, and working in the Vancouver area in various parishes in the 1980s. Even in retirement, he remains active in the church community.

The service and luncheon are open to the public.
