Society hosts orchid show

NANAIMO – Central Vancouver Island Orchid Society hosts annual show and sale at Nanaimo North Town Centre.

The Central Vancouver Island Orchid Society hosts its annual show and sale at Nanaimo North Town Centre Sept. 30-Oct. 2.

This is an American orchid judged show and will include displays of hundreds of varieties of both species and hybrid orchids from growers from the Fraser Valley, Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo and area.

There will be lots of opportunity to chat with orchid growers for growing tips and problems.

This year features a photography workshop Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. presented by American Orchid Society photographer Judith Hingham. She will discuss basic set-up, use of a camera lens, depth of field, macro, aperture, focus point, clarity/sharpness, background and use of a tripod all focused on helping people take photos of orchids or other plants at home or on display.

On Saturday and Sunday, some of the best growers will be re-potting plants by donation.

The show runs 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
