Sections of Nanaimo's Parkway Trail made safer with upgrades

NANAIMO – Sections of the Parkway Trail received a facelift to make a more accessible and safer pathway for residents

Sections of the Parkway Trail received a facelift to make a more accessible and safer pathway for residents.

Paving crews were hard at work revamping the 1.4-kilometre asphalt section between East Wellington and Northfield roads because tree roots were pushing through the trail.

To ensure the project was environmentally responsible, the old asphalt was removed and reused by mixing it with the mulched tree roots to resurface the trail. The trail was also widened by five centimetres and has a half-metre shoulder for more stability.

The Parkway Trail is a multi-use pathway that extends 22 kilometres and was built by the City of Nanaimo with participation from the Ministry of Transportation and financial support from the Nanaimo Rotary Daybreak and Nanaimo Rotary Club.
