The Easter Bunny won’t hop along the trails of the Morrell Nature Sanctuary this year.
The Morrell Society decided to cancel its annual scavenger hunt, which attracted more than 400 children and their family members last year, due to concerns about safety. Nanaimo Lakes Road is still in the midst of ongoing construction and board members were worried about the availability of parking and the safety of children who would be walking along the roadway.
The board felt that not enough volunteers were available to place along the roadway to ensure a safe route for people accessing the scavenger hunt. The society said on its website that it hopes to continue the event next year with the help of more volunteers.
