Rotary Club of Nanaimo Daybreak is hoping people ante up at poker fundraiser this weekend.

Taking place Sunday, Feb. 4, the club is hosting a Texas hold ’em poker tournament at Cavallotti Lodge on 2060 East Wellington Rd., benefiting PacificSport Vancouver Island. Bill Brendon, tournament manager and Rotarian, said the tournament will host 100 people, with a $100 buy-in and a top prize of $1,000 and $500 to second place.

A professional tournament director and dealers have been hired for the event.

Brendon said in particular, proceeds will go to PacificSport V.I.’s partnership with Canucks Autism Network, delivering activities in Nanaimo and Wheel Kids, offering a wheeling skills physical literacy program for children between five and 12 years old.

“Rotary Daybreak in particular has its mandate, through the years, of supporting youth and families … in the community,” said Brendon. “So PacificSport is a great partner for us and we for them.”

The tournament starts at 2 p.m., doors open at 12:30 p.m. and while people can register at that time, Brendon says organizers would prefer pre-registration. There will be refreshments served, but no alcohol. For more information, visit www.daybreakrotary.ca.
