South End Community Association holds South End Day at Deverill Square Park

Like other Nanaimo organizations, South End Community Association resumed an event shelved the past two years due to COVID-19.

The association held its South End Day at Deverill Square Park today, June 25. Sydney Robertson, association chairperson, said it was good to be back.

“It was hard to hit the pause button on events like this,” Robertson said. “This is the kind of thing the south end does best. We love it when we all gather together. Everybody pitches in, we have some fun, we meet some new neighbours and I firmly believe that this is the kind of thing that makes us strong for when we have to hold each other up through the hard times.”

Live entertainment, children’s games and art were featured and Robertson estimated 300 people had attended, as of noon.

“We’ve got so many volunteers that have come out and taken on all the pieces, so many hands make light work,” Robertson said.
