It’s become outrageous how the queen of old halls can really get rocking with a full house. The second annual Outrageous Evening lip-syncing competition was held Friday, April 12, at Ladysmith’s Aggie Hall, and again got the sold-out crowd jumping.

The event, organized by the Ladysmith Downtown Business Association, featured seven teams competing to hilarious and outrageous effect.

“The competition was fierce this year,” said Brianne Mactier, president of the association.

Cheri Mactier, who judged the event along with drag queen Vikki Smudg and Stephanie Roth, said judging was a tough job this year.

“What stood out was really how much fun all the participants were having,” she said. “It made it very hard, because the more fun the performers were having made the crowd just get more outrageous.”

The judges all agreed that a real highlight of the whole evening was the performance put on by master of ceremonies Tylor Nelson and Brianne Mactier. The pair opened the second half of the show with a live performance of their original song about parking in Ladysmith, to the tune of New York New York.

This year’s competition ended in a tie between two groups from Motus Fitness, with both receiving perfect scores. Runners-up were the performers from the Old Town Bakery/Wild Poppy who performed a Dirty Dancing mash-up.

“We are so ecstatic about the success of the show and more importantly how much fun everyone had,” said Nelson.

This year the business association partnered with the Arts Council of Ladysmith and District and all proceeds will benefit both groups.

Organizers acknowledged sponsors Mactier Real Estate Group, Motus Fitness, Bayview Brewery, Old Time Bakery/Wild Poppy, Ladysmith and District Credit Union, Ladysmith Kinsmen, Juniper and Sage, Zack’s Lounge and Airwest Heating and Gas.
