Online auction raises money for university students

NANAIMO – More than 150 prizes available at the VIU online auction.

When Vancouver Island University kicks off its annual online auction on Friday, there will be no shortage of prizes to bid on.

A two-night getaway to Ucluelet, ski packages to Mount Washington, a trip to see the Vancouver Canucks and a private house concert with a Celtic musician are just a few of the more than 175 prizes available.

The VIU online auction will begin Friday (Oct. 23) at 9 a.m. Proceeds from the auction go directly toward supporting student awards, equipment and learning opportunities.

Among the top prizes is a Vancouver Canucks package. It includes two tickets to see the Canucks take on the Calgary Flames in February, roundtrip airfare on Harbour Air and overnight accommodation at L'Hermitage Hotel with complimentary breakfast and is valued at $1,120.

“We are overwhelmed by the generous donations of fantastic prizes for our annual auction,” William Litchfield, director of advancement and alumni relations, said in a press release, “We have a record number of auction prizes, and encourage the fun, competitive bidding that will help us reach our goal of $25,000.”

Other items up for grabs include a spa package at Kingfisher Oceanside Resort & Spa in Royston, a house concert with Celtic musician Anna Aktinson, a one-year membership to Northridge Health Performance Centre, a three-month unlimited yoga pass to Moksha Yoga, tickets to the Victoria Symphony and a BMW vehicle spa treatment package.
