All around the city today and tomorrow, items can be found that are free to a good home.

The Reuse Rendezvous is taking place Aug. 10-11 in the City of Nanaimo. According to a press release, the event is meant to keep items from going to waste.

Furniture, toys, sporting goods, books, bikes and other items can be placed on the curb and marked clearly with a ‘free’ sign.

“Reuse Rendezvous is a great event not only for households looking to pass along unwanted items and bargain hunters looking for treasures, but it also provides people with the opportunity to get involved in environmental sustainability by extending the life of gently used household items and diverting waste from the landfill,” said Charlotte Davis, city manager of sanitation, recycling and public works administration.

The city asks motorists to be safe, park carefully and respect public and private property.

The city also asks that people please bring in any items that aren’t picked up by the end of the day Sunday, Aug. 11.
