Nanaimo firefighters will put their best boots forward this weekend to fight muscular dystrophy.
On Sunday, Oct. 1, Nanaimo Professional Firefighters IAFF Charitable Society members, including 90 firefighters, fire inspectors and support staff, will be at seven grocery stores across Nanaimo asking members of the public to fill their boots with cash during the annual Muscular Dystrophy Boot Drive. People who happen to find themselves short on spare change will also be able to make donations via Interac.
Muscular Dystrophy Canada is the International Association of Fire Fighters’ charity of choice and the Nanaimo Professional Firefighters’ Charitable Society is the fundraising arm of the IAFF Local 905.
“Nanaimo’s professional firefighters support our community in many ways beyond responding to calls,” said Brad Terragni, firefighter and muscular dystrophy committee organizer, in a press release. “Raising money on behalf of Muscular Dystrophy Canada is a tradition going back decades and a role we are proud to support. The money raised comes back to help those living with muscular dystrophy in our community.”
