Children at Randerson Ridge Elementary School in Nanaimo finished off their week at school by hosting, with some help from their teachers and parents, for a Korean and Chinese Lunar New Year celebration.
Parents set up a luncheon for the school’s Korean and Chinese students who each invited a friend. Afterward, all of the school’s students went to the gym where they took turns learning to write their names in Korean, decorate a Chinese money pouch, paint Chinese window decorations, play a Korean New Year game, draw their Chinese zodiac sign and learn how to use chopsticks.
Chinese Lunar New Year 2019 began Tuesday. 2019 is the year of the pig, according to the Chinese zodiac, which is based on a 12-year cycle.
