The Nanaimo RCMP recently recognized one of their long-serving volunteers for 25 years of dedication to the community.
Don Willett was presented with the Commanding Officer’s certificate and pin for 25 years of community service at the Nanaimo RCMP Community Policing Section’s meeting in January.
Willett has worked with many of the Nanaimo RCMP Community Policing Section’s programs and was one of the first volunteers with Citizens on Patrol – now called Crime Watch – and Speed Watch. Both programs would not exist without volunteers.
According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release, when Willett was asked why he volunteers, he said the people keep him coming back and that being able to talk to people in the community and help them is very satisfying.
“It’s people like Don who are the backbone of our volunteer programs,” said Dave Cusson, community policing coordinator, in the press release. “Don’s knowledge and great disposition help attract other volunteers. We certainly appreciate what Don does not only for our detachment but for the City of Nanaimo in general.”
