An organization committed to helping people with development disabilities thrive took a moment last week to celebrate its decades of service.
The Nanaimo Association for Community Living held a 35th-anniversary celebration last week at its day program centre on Victoria Crescent.
The association aims to support and empower people with disabilities through housing and employment services and activity and learning programs. Last year the association achieved a goal as it completed, in partnership with the province and city, a 12-unit townhouse rental development for its clients.
Graham Morry, executive director, said in a press release that NACL’s 35th anniversary was a time for reflection and celebration.
“I’m incredibly proud of our organization and our staff’s commitment to support people with diversabilities in their efforts to make genuine connections in community, secure safe and dignified housing and find meaningful opportunities for employment,” he said.
Nanaimo Mayor Leonard Krog proclaimed July as Nanaimo Association for Community Living Month and congratulated the association on the milestone anniversary and its efforts over the years.
“NACL is an organization that works tirelessly to advocate for the values of diversity, equity and inclusion and, in the process, makes our community a better place for all,” Krog said in the release.
