Nanaimo and its forests are home to all kinds of mushrooms, which has benefits and dangers.
Joyce Lee has worries about poisonous mushrooms that grow in the area and wants to share her knowledge of fungi.
She will present Mushroom Madness on Tuesday (Oct. 24) at 7 p.m. at the Beban Park social centre.
“It’s not really madness … I’m really talking about safety if you’re going to be picking anything,” she said.
“I hope it’s a positive element. If you’re going to go for a walk, enjoy the mushrooms, appreciate them for the look, take pictures, don’t pick, buy your mushrooms in the store,” she said.
Nature Nanaimo is a new group that is trying to attract members with hopes of getting more formally organized. For info, e-mail naturenanaimo@gmail.com.
