London Drugs supports hospital

Company makes $25,000 donation to project.

When the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation asked for help, London Drugs was quick to respond.

As one of the first corporate donors to formally kick-off sponsorship of the new emergency department expansion at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, London Drugs demonstrated its dedication to central Vancouver Island communities.

Nanaimo store managers Allan Sherwood, North Town Centre, and Daryl Patton, Port Place Mall, presented Maeve O’Byrne, president of the hospital foundation, with a $25,000 donation toward the purchase of essential equipment for the emergency department, set to open next year.

“London Drugs believes in giving back to the communities we serve,” said Sherwood. “London Drugs has been part of the Nanaimo region since 1989 with the introduction of its first store at Port Place Mall, its second store in 2007 at Nanaimo North Town Centre.

“The benefits this project will bring to the community are immense. This type of project is a tangible link between London Drugs, our customers, and the expansion of the emergency unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.”

The hospital foundation is raising $4 million toward the $36.9-million price tag of the project.

O’Byrne expressed her extreme gratitude to the stores for responding to a dire need with generosity.

“This hospital belongs to all of us and it is so rewarding to partner with an organization with parallel values to the foundation,” she said.
