The Royal Canadian Legion Mount Benson, Branch 256 continues to help fund health care for veterans. The legion’s recent $3,500 donation to the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation will help purchase essential equipment for the new emergency department expansion at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. The expansion will triple the size of the existing department, which is the busiest emergency on Vancouver Island with more than 53,000 visits a year. The hospital foundation is committed to raising $4 million toward the purchase of equipment and Mount Benson Legion 256 was able to make such a generous gift thanks to their Poppy Fund. “Legion 256 has shown remarkable dedication to their veterans by directing their funding towards departments that affect their members specifically. The foundation feels very privileged to be included in the legion’s generosity,” said Amber Adams, of the foundation.
