LANTZVILLE FARMERS MARKET SOCIETY – Volunteers are needed to assist at the Lantzville Farmers market on Sundays from until Oct. 27. Hours are from 12:30-5 p.m., with a minimum one-hour commitment. Please contact Dave Lawrence at 250-816-8931 or e-mail  lantzvillefarmersmarket@gmail.com.

LITERACY CENTRAL VANCOUVER ISLAND –  Volunteers needed to help in Well Read Books, childrens’ bookstore, at 19 Commercial St., for three to four hours per week, pricing and shelving books.  Please contact the supervisor at 250-591-2665 or stop in and fill out an application.

MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY – The society is holding its inaugural Walk for Muscular Dystrophy in Nanaimo on Sept. 28 at Maffeo Sutton Park. They need an assistant coordinator. Please contact Paul Lazenby at 1-250-748-4945 or e-mail at pmlazenby@gmail.com.

B.C. BLIND FITNESS PROGRAM – Volunteers required to assist the Instructor. Program runs from every Thursday, 2-3 p.m., until Nov. 7 at 285 Prideaux St. in the Community Services Building. Volunteers must joint B.C. Blind Sports and provide a criminal record check. Please contact Carolyn at 250-716-9053.

DOWNTOWN NANAIMO BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION – Volunteers are needed to help set up for DNBIA Harvest Festival taking place in the Old City Quarter on Saturday (Sept. 14). From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., work includes assisting with setting up tables and chairs, setting up tents and some lifting involved. ETRA – Therapeutic riding association is in search of adult volunteers for the fall session. Must be over 19 years of age and available for either a Tuesday or Wednesday (morning or afternoon sessions). Must be able to walk beside the horse and rider and provide rider with assistance as needed. Must be able to commit to 11-week session.
