Island among top vacation destinations

NANAIMO: North America’s largest Pacific island has again been voted one of the world’s leading island destinations.

Vancouver Island continues to be recognized as a premier vacation destination.

North America’s largest Pacific island, with its mix of pristine wilderness and top-ranked food and lodging, has again been voted one of the world’s leading island destinations.

Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice awarded Vancouver Island No. 1 Island in Canada and No. 6 Island in the world. The Gulf Islands were also named among the Top 5 Islands in Canada.

More than 46,000 readers participated in the 25th annual survey and many Vancouver Island destinations were rated among the best.

The travel magazine has been conducting a Readers’ Choice award program since 1988 and Vancouver Island has remained among the top islands since 2000.

Tourism Vancouver Island, President and CEO, Dave Petryk, is pleased that travelers continue to have Vancouver Island top of mind as their choice as a year round travel destination.

“As residents of the Vancouver Island region, many of us take our surroundings for granted,” he said. “Every resident and every business should be extremely proud that the readers of this very prestigious magazine find our home such a desirable place to visit.”

Tourism Vancouver Island is one of six regional destination management organizations in British Columbia that represent Tourism British Columbia through the delivery of co-operative marketing and community development programs.
