NANAIMO – Uplands Elementary School took first place in B.C. in a plastic bag challenge.

Dekklon Stocks, left, Daytton Stocks, Chance Bennett and Kayaan Stocks were integral parts of Uplands Park Elementary School’s winning effort in the Plastic Bag Grab Challenge, a nationwide challenge to see which school could collect the most plastic shopping bags.

The school took first place in B.C. and will get $3,000. Lisa Robinson, school principal, said the money will go toward a student project on global citizenship and environmental awareness. A total of 16,037 bags were collected.
