Grant allows continuation of computer vision course

Nanaimo Disability Resource Centre is continuing its computer program for blind and partially-sighted individuals thanks to a $10,000 grant from Coast Capital Savings.

Perhaps best known for its parking permit program, the centre has always worked diligently to create programs that support people with disabilities in becoming more independent in the community.

The computer program for the blind is one such program where blind and low-vision individuals receive one-to-one computer training at the centre’s office, 2-4166 Departure Bay Rd.

“The purpose of the program is to help prepare students for integration into the community and workplace,” said Ken Kaminski, board president. “With the proper software, there is very little that a blind or partially-sighted person cannot do.”
