Cool, wet spring weather may put a damper on a number of outdoor activities, but it is perfect for growing rhododendrons.

Nanaimo Rhododendron Society is hosting a tour of local gardens Sunday (May 22), inviting the public for a close-up look at the creativity and passion of Nanaimo gardeners.

The gardens range from seaside to woodland, offering an insight on the diversity of plants that can be grown in a coastal climate.

While rhododendrons are featured in many of the nine gardens open to public viewing, there will be a number gardening styles and plants to explore.

The self-guided tour runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 and are available at Art Knapp Plantland, Dig This, Diana’s Garden Centre, Turley’s Florist and Potting Shed and Buckerfields.
