Early-bird deadline nears for cancer fundraiser

If 2011 is the year you vowed to make a difference in your community, the Canadian Cancer Society is offering an opportunity to follow through on the resolution at a reduced cost.

Early birds can take advantage of a reduced registration fee of $10 for the society’s Relay For Life by signing up before Jan. 31.

The society wants anyone looking to honour cancer survivors and caregivers, or pay tribute to those who have lost their battle with cancer, to join the June 3 relay at Rotary Bowl Stadium at 7 p.m.

Relay For Life events are held overnight, across Canada, as individuals and teams camp out at an athletic track, park or other gathering area with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track or pathway at all times throughout the evening.

While teams do most of their fundraising prior to the relay, some teams also hold creative fundraisers at their camp sites during the event.

Relay for Life brings together people from all walks of life to celebrate the lives of those who have had cancer and remembering those lost and those fighting back against the disease.
