Credit union recognized for philanthropy

NANAIMO – Employees give volunteer hours to community.

Coastal Community Credit Union was named winner of Vancouver Island’s Corporate Responsibility Award on National Philanthropy Day in November.

The Island chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals presented the award, which recognizes the credit union and its employees for their outstanding community involvement in the Vancouver Island region.

“As the largest financial services organization based on Vancouver Island, our employees care about our communities and do great things for them because all of us live and work right here on the islands,” said Joe Cristiano, Coastal Community’s chief community and marketing officer, who accepted the award for the credit union.

Every year, employees give hundreds of hours of their time and leadership to causes they’re passionate about. This year, employees were seen banding together to help with things like painting the United Way’s new Nanaimo office, or staging a head shaving event to raise money for school kids in need. They’re also quick to reply to the several call for volunteers – Coastal Community delivers during the year, with everything from the Credit Union’s Sunset Cinema series in support of Success By 6 to assisting a young student pull off her community barbecue for the disadvantaged.
