Clown aims to inspire

Nanaimo’s Aunti Bobbi The Clown will give the keynote address at the Girl Guides of Canada’s local Thinking Day for Girl Guides event.

Guides around the world will honour founders Lord and Lady Baden Powell on Tuesday (Feb. 22) and local girls and young women will have a unique chance to laugh, learn and celebrate the world’s largest women’s organization.

During her presentation, Aunti Bobbi will be teaching the five to 18-year-olds (and their leaders) about how they can take on the world from their own backyard.

“I truly believe that we can all make a difference if we are passionate about our cause,” Aunti Bobbi said. “For me the biggest part of making a difference as a girl is to first and foremost believe in ourselves. It is my passion to help people to believe in themselves, to dream big and keep their dreams and watch them come true.”

Through her inspiring presentation and the spirit of the Thinking Day for Girl Guides event, the audience will empower themselves to change our world.

For World Thinking Day 2011, Girl Guides of Canada adopted the Millennium Development Goal 3: Gender Equality and Empowering Women, challenging girls and women to make themselves heard from coast to coast as they raise awareness of gender equality issues that exist around the world and to empower girls and young women to take a stand against inequality.

The event is 6:30-7:30 p.m. for Girl Guides, leaders and parents.
