APPLAUSE: Free family skate pretty cool

NANAIMO – Lions club hosts family skate thanks to community partnership.

To the Editor,

The Nanaimo Lions Club would like to thank all those who made our inaugural Free Family Skate on Sundays at the Nanaimo Ice Centre such a success.

Nanaimo parks, recreation and culture department, together with Save-On-Foods at Terminal Park, Country Club and Woodgrove shopping malls, provided the opportunity for more than 5,600 skaters to participate for two hours of free skating each Sunday.

Without the support of Save-On-Foods and the following sponsors – Haarsma Waste Innovations, Herold Engineering, HSBC Bank Canada , Saunders Weldcraft, Sharecost Rentals and Sales, Widsten Property Management and BMO Nesbitt Burns –. this event would not have been possible.

We wish to thank all the citizens of Nanaimo who participated. Many were international students at Vancouver Island University and this was their first time on skates.

At the end of the 26 weeks, many had the opportunity to exercise and have fun. It provided quality family time and lots of smiles.

In our long history of contributing to the quality of life to the residents of Nanaimo, the Nanaimo Lions Club will to offer this special Free Family Skate on Sundays this fall at the Frank Crane Arena.

Watch for the announcement of the times in the parks, recreation and culture leisure guide available this summer.
